Rackaityte Lab @ UCSF: protein biochemistry at the maternal-fetal interface

Fluorescence microscopy of IL1RA and blood vessels at the maternal-fetal interface
The placenta is a site of maternal-fetal crosstalk

During pregnancy the maternal immune system tolerates foreign proteins shed by the placenta. We study the molecular rules that make this tolerance possible, what happens when those rules break down, and how proteins move between mother and fetus. Using protein biochemistry, immunology, and genomics approaches, we're working to decode maternal-fetal communication and develop new therapies for pregnancy complications.
